At Winscombe CC we field two Saturday sides in the Somerset Cricket League with the 1st XI playing in the Premier division and the 2nd XI in division 6W. We also enter the Somerset T20 Intermediate cup with the final at Taunton and play in the Weston super Mare T20 evening league. We are also entering a development side into the new Somerset T20 Sunday league.
The cricket clubs future lies with the 100 plus boys and girls in our thriving youth section run by qualified coaches and head of youth cricket Roger Willmot. Coaching and training in the basics of the game for 5-13 year olds takes place on a Wednesday evening from 18:00 – 19:30. This year we have league sides for under 11s, 13s and 15s, we are also entering the u16 Somerset Smash. We have already seen the benefit of our youth programme with half of the current first team being products of the youth sides. During the off season youth and senior practice sessions are held indoors at Sidcot School on Wednesday evenings, see our facebook group for details.
Off the field the clubhouse offers a fantastic facility with 2 bars and a function room that can accommodate 200 people as well as incorporating a very popular skittle alley well used by social members as well as sportsmen and women all the year round.
We rely on the many volunteers that keep the club going on and off the field – we are though equally dependent on the support we receive from the Parish Council.
